Long boading as in skate boarding

Postby jennie » Sun Jan 08, 2006 3:07 pm

I just got a long board and took it out in the town for a bit of a ride........i can turn and had a load of fun burning around our streets......just one thing tho how do you stop on them??!!

i thought you just stop like you do on a snow board and mountain board but i just kinda found myself jumping off coz otherwise i would have gone into a car or something........

Anyone else ride them who can give me some advice?

the best technique to use is called foot braking, basically keeping one foot on the board and dragging the other foot to slow you down. It takes alot of practice to do but it will become second nature after a while, it is also usefull for controlling your speed as well as stopping,
a how-to guide is located at;

you can also powerslide as you would in mountainboarding make sure you weight the front foot and push out with your back leg, it is alot harder than on a mountainboard though and it is alot easier to catch an edge and end up faceplanting into the road. Can be useful in situations where you need to stop very quickly, like when a car pulls out on you. Gloves are recommended as you tend to drag your hands when sliding.

if you need any more info feel free to ask
