Wax problem

Postby SurferFreak15 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 2:06 pm

I had an arguement with my fathere about how much wax is tobe on board. I've seen people with an inch thick coat on. But thats too much.

I do clean wax my board off every 3 times I go out and I'm talking about the first coast. I spread it back and forth from 2in up from back and where my chin goes on the board. And I put enough on there to make it work. Usually any more less I put on there it gets slick. Is my dad right, am I putting on to much wax?

It's all about personal preference.

If what you're doing works for you then it's not too much.

I tend to put a lot around where my feet go, a little in the middle for when I'm sitting and a little on the rails for when I duckdive.

It's nowhere near an inch thick though - it takes about 5 mins to wax my board from clean.

The wax I have on there has been on there most of last year - i only top it up or rough it with a comb when I go out.

WHY'S EVERYONE WORRYING ABOUT THEIR WAX TODAY?????

As long as you've got enough wax on there to stop you slipping off, it doesnt matter!!
Thick wax can look dirty, and sometimes can start to get less sticky if you use the board somewhere warm (melting the wax then letting it solidify seems to 'glaze' it).

But basically, if you're not slipping off the board, thats all you need to worry about.

(Cleaning every three waxes? Jeez... That's commitment)

I always thought the best way to do it was this:

1. Clean all the wax off.
2. Clean the board with acetone or similar
3. Use organic beeswax to buff to a showroom shine
4. cover with a layer of cold water wax
5. Use a hairdryer to melt this wax to form a smooth coating
6. Lay strips of hair removal wax over it
7. Drip some candle wax onto this (this may take a while - use a church candle)
8. Cover with hair wax
9. Melt a waxwork model of your favourite celebrity over it
10. Blend in some furniture wax
11. Use some hopi ear candles to extract some ear wax and rub lightly over the board.
12. Apply a design using wax crayons.
13. Top off with a layer of Mrs Palmers!!

I thought I was the only one that put wax on the rails for duck-diving. Actually, I do that because that's where I push off for my pop-up. Nothing pisses me off than catching a wave and then to a face plant in the water when your arm falls in after it slips off.

peace,

Lu
