First of all there's nothing (well 99.99% sure) big enough in the southern North Sea that will attack seals... except the odd Mako or Porbeagle Shark that is... but thats only a very rare occurrence...

Second - a few years ago at Sea Palling it was documented in the paper that a swimmer was attacked by a seal and got his leg(femur) smashed into 3 peices by the beast ramming him  !

Third - about 2-3 weeks ago at Winterton, local surfer Lewis was left alone in the water with a large seal patrolling the area - I'm sure I've seen the one and its a good size(3+metres) bugger!
He got spooked by it as it kept watching him and then began to get very close - so that Lewis could hear it 'snorting like a bull', when it swam away then turned and swam directly towards him at an alarming pace - and I quote, "I saw the f**ker coming staight for me".
The next Lewis knew he was hurled 2ft up into the air as it struck the underneath of his board  .

No physical harm came to Lewis after he paddled in fairly smartish soon after...

Some dude in Oregon sent a letter to Surfing the mag. a while back. Apperently while he was surfing a sea lion popped up right in front of him and he slammed right into it. Totally smashed the front of the board killing the sea lion. The board also smashed the guy in the head some how, and he had to go to hospital for stitches. I don't remember how the whole story goes (as I stated, it was a while ago)...

I agree with Dopey in that where you find seals, the toothier fish are sure to follow.
Had an experience where a seal paid us a visit. I finished my sesh and turned back to see that all the other okes pulled out as well.

Turns out that a shark was having the seal was for lunch...
