people here are no different than anywhere else, except for the fact that a lot of them think theyre better in some way. deeper or more enlightened, relaxed, or friendly. that just isnt true. people everywhere are friendly, and anyone who thinks people in hawaii are better or more relaxed maybe havent been to a smaller city on the mainland.. im not sure.
hawaii has just as many problems with crime, racism, poverty, etc. as any other city. locals dont realize it mostly, but there is a lot of prejudice. asians look down on whites, whites look down on polynesians, and polynesians hate the whites. i dated a 3rd generation local but full japanese girl whos grandmother hated the idea of her dating a white boy. my japanese friend has grandparents who are the same way, and even he admits he wouldnt like the idea of his daughter or sister (if he had one) dating a white guy.
sorry.. i just dont like it when people think theyre somehow better or have more harmony and soul than mainland people because theyre locals.

what's the art walk?

so are there any rural areas in hawaii? so it would be like living in the county at the beach? I think im gonna have a hard time finding that.......

yea, I hear ya on the rasicm. right now, I go to a preppy, pothead/drinkers, richie school, and they are doin' housing projects in the zone, so its a whole bunch of inner city people who dont have a house that are mixed with the top description.....they hate us.

living in the country at the beach? you mean like a rural area by the ocean? there are rural areas, but not really on oahu. the south coast is covered in crowded inner city like suburbs, little 5 story apartments and small skyscrapers. further inland there are nice, boring, personality lacking suburbs planned by developers, like the ones you have on the mainland. then there are areas which arn't developed, and on the north shore there are a few farms and small town like areas.

on the other islands things are a bit more relaxed, with small rural communities and farms. but not much on oahu, and not maui either i think...

id like to add to my last one that the local mentality reminds me of self proclaimed "soul surfers" who think they are better or more enlightened and soulful or relaxed or have some sort of deep philosophy on life, more than other people do, simply because they surf.
