Surf Tricks help

Postby baja fresk » Wed Nov 23, 2005 4:39 pm

hey guys

set up this topic for anyone who needs help with a trick or basic surfing, at least past standing up. i'm sure there are a lot of pretty experienced guys that can show us a few pointers.

i myself have a problem with turning and positioning myself on the wave. as soon as i stand up i can't seem to get in the pocket and by the time i DO stand up, the wave already breaks and it's too late. also when i try to get in the pocket, as im turning i always pearl. maybe it's because im just leaning. is there a certain way to move your feet? like do u pivot your front foot or something? or maybe its because i live in south florida and the waves are mush.

This one is, I think, fairly simple...
(Partly 'cos I know Ive been guilty of it myself and learnt the hard way...)

If you're pearling as you turn, you're trying to turn the board with the front foot and putting too much weight on the rail. You should be turning off your BACK foot.

That is... get enough speed so the board is really planing, then at the moment of the turn, put some weight on your back foot and on the inside rail. As the board gets light at the front, guide it round (without using too much weight) with your front foot. :D

Oh yeah, and dont lean...

know the feeling there mate. my advice is if its a break you know than just go for it there wont be anything much different just a bigger drop n more speed. if not then maybe watch what everyone else is doing first. bt then the biggest ive been confronted with is about head n a half.
