Learnt a lesson today............

Postby IdRatherBeSurfing » Sat Oct 29, 2005 6:23 pm

it was mega windy today - surf was great so got changed and headed out.

Was kinda surprised to see only about 3 other people out.

Working real hard today to catch waves on shortboard (hard work, but did get one or two :D )

but the wind was absolute murder! kept getting stuck in this rip and was being dragged down the coast. Tried to paddle out past the break, but waves were getting bigger and bigger (not nice being a beginner faced with a 10-12ft wall of water coming towards you)

Gave up after a bit and headed back in - wind kept catching the board and it was dragging me all over the place like something posessed  .

All in a days work though

yeh i started learnin to surf about 4 weeks ago. and ive been out every sat...but yesterday when i went out there the wind was shockin! i kept driftin over and i eventually drivted to the reef, dunked by the biggest wave of the day..like 4-5 ft and sconned my foot on the reef, and i couldnt paddle back in cos the fins would get dinged. so i had to walk over the reef..cained lyk a bitch

i live on the east coast of florida and man, when i surfed katrina it was the worst ive ever been in. the wind was like 40mph at least and was whipping the sand up like a storm, it would pelt you and eat at your skin, it was horrible. tried paddling out but it was too intense, it wasnt that the waves were big it was just cause they kept breaking too much, plus the chop was ubelievable. haha i remember running down the beach with my board and the wind was so strong i would jump with my board in my arms and the wind would catch it, i'd actually float in the air for about 10 feet before landing

Ah, you guys whine about the occasional wind it's what I surf in nearly every session (I live in the windiest part of Taiwan). It's a windsurfers paradise but a surfers nightmare. Luckily there is a pier that I usually surf by that blocks a lot of the wind. If not for that, surfing here would be xxxxx (pei-la in Chinese).
