Best airlines to ensure boards arrive on time without charge

Postby PipeDreams » Mon Jul 04, 2022 10:58 am

Hey all,
Planning an indo trip atm, but I see lots of things happening on airlines like charging extra for each board once you are ready to leave at the airport, boards getting lost or not arriving until days later. I am a teen who is earning what I need to go and get a substantial quiver and kit, and enough to do stuff when I'm there. I cant pay hundreds to bring each board onto the plane with me. And then on top of that, I will be 6 hour drive from the airport, if boards take days to arrive I cant exactly just pick them up. The best deal I could find was flying with Qatar and Garuda, from what I understand Garuda is pretty surfer friendly, but cant say I've ever heard much on surfboards with Qatar. Any help appreciated :D
(also if there is a really cheap way to get to indo from UK I'm listening)

For Indo Garuda usually doesn’t charge, if you linking within indo check they don’t too although the small the aircraft the small bag and board limits. Garuda does inter island hops but size does count.
Read Garudas baggage policy do they fly out of UK?
Have fun

All indonesian airways were banned from EU airspace, although that has been lifted in 2022 (I believe) its still bloody hard to get flights to Indo  and brexit boogaloo (UK leaving the EU before Indonesian airlines ban was lifted) means that they are still banned from the UK. This means I have to fly to Doha/Dubai then to Jakarta to catch a Garuda flight to Bandar Lampung. 2 Qatar flights, so they are who I am worried about.
Their website is unclear on boards and doesn't work half the time as well D:

Just an awareness for the UK surfers planning to go to Bali, there is an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in cattle.
May effect quarantine issue for travellers coming back to the UK.
