2mm for 17°C/62°F?

Postby Kookie2 » Thu Nov 25, 2021 2:20 pm

Coldest it gets here is 17°C.

A 2mm wetsuit is $40. A 3mm wetsuit is $190.

I already have a jacket top that I could wear over the top if the 2mm isn't enough.

Could I go for the 2mm, so long as it fits perfectly?

Is 17 degrees the water temperature, the air temperature or both ?

Does your wetsuit jacket fit perfectly ?

Some people wear 4/3 and some don't wear a wetsuit at 17C/62F. It's all up to personal tolerance.

I would say not warm enough. It also depends on the session duration. 30 mins could be okay.
And, even if you don’t actually feel cold the thinner wetsuit May result in impaired endurance, cramps and even catching a cold.

For instance, as an experiment I surfed in a vest and board shorts well into November this year. I didn’t actually feel cold but ended up getting sick/catching a cold eventually.
