Second foamie repair (this one isnt as bad)

Postby BigRon » Tue Nov 23, 2021 7:41 pm

Hello again,

Looking for advice on how to:
- repair small section where the exterior foam has started to peel away
- repair small cut in foam (potentially from another boards fin)
- repair small chip in slick that exposes a bit of interior foam

any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. feel like this is more salvagable than other board (see.other post).

Both were just collecting dust in a shed to not an issue if they can't be repaired or I make them worse in my attempts to repair.

Many thanks,
Aaron

I had a similar issue where the exterior foam was peeling away and I used 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant, to glue the foam back onto the inner core. Seemed to work fine and still holding after the first season. Might be able to use it for the slick bottom also, but I havent tried it.

The cut repair would probably be best with something other than the Marine Adhesive, because it gets kinda hard after it dries. Just make sure its something that works with EPS foam repairs, since that cut probably goes through to the EPS core

#1 Photo repair small chip in slick that exposes a bit of interior foam ------- Solarez's Sponge-rez, Hot glue gun, or the marine sealant. ( that Naeco78 recommended )

#2 Photo repair small cut in foam (potentially from another boards fin) -------- Solarez's Sponge-rez, Hot glue gun, or the marine sealant.

#3 Photo repair small section where the exterior foam has started to peel away ----- Solarez's Sponge-rez, Hot glue gun, or the marine sealant. For this one I think it's easier to lay down a straight bead line with a hot glue gun.

After a while the hot glue will get yellow and crispy and pull away from areas that flex along. But for me it works good for the job at hand.

Definitely concur with the hot glue gun advice.
I learnt about it from Waikikian and Jaffa at this forum 8 years ago. And, I applied it dozens of times before graduating to a hard board.
