beginner/int socal spots

Postby waveswaveswaves » Thu Aug 26, 2021 10:01 pm

I'm in Los Angeles. I don't mind driving up and down to Ventura/OC in search of good learning-progression waves. I've been surfing for a year.

I'm trying to transition my learning away from "big fat learner rollers" (Mondos, Doheny, small SanO) toward waves with a little more speed and face. I ride a 7.4 mini-mal or 8-foot foamie.

My go-to beach break, Bolsa Chica, feels less than ideal -- constantly being sucked out of positions by the current, strong onshores, plus stringray-central. Great training for "making do" but I'm starting to look elsewhere. Are there spots that are a little more forgiving but not SO soft that I'm always reaching for the foamie?

Any particular part? The spots around the pier look like the lineups are aggressive
