I almost always surf alone at Ocean Beach. Big waves and killer current keep most people watching at the shore or down south at Taco Bell. We have no jetty to jump off of. Just one sick swim to big, angry waves.

That is an awesome wave. I would of loved the chance to have seen/ridden it when I lived in Texas.

The famous wave you speak of (I assume you're speaking of Mavericks) is MUCH bigger.(And any other ER you care to add.)

Thats why it's famous.

Oh yeah, most of us dont jump off of anything to get out there...
And that is a 9ft gun, just to give you an idea of how big the wave is. Im in no way saying that that wave is in the same category as mavs or any of that crap, im just saying that thats a fairly big, good wave.

My assumption was based on the fact that you're talking big, famous waves to someone from Nor-Cal.

I didn't assume that you jumped. I was just pointing out the fact that at OB, it's not an option.

If the gulf is that on fire you should tell the site mod to take down the travel info on Santa Cruz and replace it with Surf Side. Then when they make Step Into Liquid 2, they wont diss Texas... again.

If it broke like that more often id have a gun in my closet. South Padre is the best spot in texas, because its deeper water down there, so its more consistent then anywhere up north. I'll find some more pics of SPI later.

Hey people,
I live in San Antonio and I plan on going to South Padre Island in a few weeks to surf...Is this a good time to surf there and will I have to face "non-local haters"? Let me know! Thannnks

ya, late fall and winter is a pretty good time to surf here. just wait on the cold fronts. And as long as you arent an idiot or in the way, everyone will be really friendly to you.

No, i'm not an idiot. Of course I'll respect the other surfers space. I wouldn't want to be annoyed either. All I wanted to know was how to be safe.

If you havent surfed much before and cant control your board or something (im not saying that you cant control your board) then surf down the beach away from the crowds. once you get better then you can move up by the jetties or a pier or wherever you want to go.
