Surfing for a few years, want to buy my first shortboard

Hi all,
So I am seriously thinking about buying my first shortboard to add to my quiver. I currently have a 7'6" funboard that was great to learn on, and I still enjoy on smaller days, but I would like to upgrade my quiver to include a shortboard. I am also a big bodyboarder and bodysurfer, so I'm looking for a board that would fit into that category of wave that wouldn't be steep enough to be fun on a bodyboard, but would have more size than I typically enjoy on my funboard. A buddy of mine owns a 5'8" board that I have enjoyed riding recently. Its pretty wide but fairly thin. I would like to get a similar board that is shorter with smaller rails but some good width. As someone who is 5'11" and about 170 pounds does anyone have recommendations for width? I'm thinking somewhere around 21" for some decent float still.

Sounds about right. Find the volume more important than dims. Check the volume of the short board you ride of your mates
