Yesterday

Yesterday my mother would have been 101, she didn’t live that long sadly ( and she would have hated being that old) she fervently hoped that I would outgrow the surfing phase! Possible growing up too!

Mum I’m still surfing at 72, my first marriage failed, surf widow + syndrome and other factors, I generated my profession and framed it so I could surf , I found a second surf supporting wife and taught my stepsons to surf, I weathered potential Vietnam call up, went from long to short to long.
My profession sent me to many Pacific and and Indian Ocean islands, surfing.
Now I call Austria home and surf rivers, Thanks Mum but I still haven’t grown out out of surfing, I have bought a large whiskey cask lovely oak, I will be cremated one in that, definitely my last barrel. Probably Bruichladdigh whiskey, Celtic for raised beach.
Cheers, Mum and all of you love writing for the forum!

My mom was a heavy smoker and also passed away too soon. I always worked too hard and wish that I had made more time for family outings - especially with her grandkids!

My mom bought me my first surfboard after spending years worrying about me drowning. Here’s to our moms who we couldn’t do without
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
