Center fin position

Postby zalle » Sun Dec 27, 2020 6:58 pm

Hi guys, I usually ride single fin longboards, and if I want a faster, stiffer ride, I push the fin back. If I'm surfing small waves, easier turns, I push the fin forward.

Today I was surfing with a few friends, one of them had a new board with a 2+1 fin setup and was complaining his board was too loose. I told him to push the center fin back.
Another guy told him to push the center fin forward, since it has 3 fins you need to push it forward to make it stiffer... Is this correct?

Thanks

You and the other guy are both friends of the guy with 2+1 set up. So you are both trying to help out I would think. But both of you have differing opinions. So your friend should try BOTH methods and see which one works best. Move the fin up a 2 cm from where it was at first and see how it goes. Then move it back from where it was originally was a 2 cm and see how it goes then.

On a side note: most set up a 2+1 by starting the base of the center fin behind where the tips of the side bites end.
