Crack on new board, advice please :(

Postby picardward » Wed Nov 25, 2020 5:15 pm

Hi all, I purchased a 9'1 prism Cortez mocha last weekend from a reputable seller. Used the board once and its formed some hairline cracks along the topside of the stringer. Position is directly in the center of the board. And the construction is EPS/Epoxy.

I've never really experienced this before but when I rang up the seller they said this is normal and I shouldn't worry about it as it's just a heavy footing. But if I wanted to could send it back for them to look over.

The board has been out once in 1-2ft conditions and nothing out of the ordinary happened, see attached? Something seems Amiss for me, I have several other boards and this is the first it to happen to.

It definitely feels like I can pick away at the shell if I get under it.

Has anyone experienced this? Can anyone advise what to do? I'm worried if the board is used again it'll get worse. if I send it back to the seller and it's deemed normal it could be £100 down the drain.

Epoxy did that? Have them check it out, it sometimes happens in fiberglass boards when double glasses, some spider cracks show through time, but not if new. It might be that it's new old stock, maybe they had it for a while and it's just old.

So, the only thing I can think of would be how you transported it, if you took it in a truck with no sock or bag the bumping up and down would cause the spider crack, I always put my boards away in a bag prior to transport.

Strange, maybe someone else has more experience but...
