Beginners on a "secret beach" on Kauai. I'll give you a clue and tell you Bethany Hamilton surfed there.... not much of a clue because she surfed all over but it was in a movie about her life

all of these guys are better than average bodysurfers at a break called Point Panic on Oahu (epic waves).

This is a drone shot of the beach where I learned to surf but it is the middle part which rarely broke this nice. Might be different now not sure haven't surfed there in many years. This would have been a crowded day way back when I surfed there but perhaps not so crowded for todays crowd. The end of the video with the SUP is Hanalei

This is where I grew up and still live. The houses you see include most of the houses I have lived in in my life and the bay and beach is where I first bodysurfed and now surf. There were much less houses long ago. I have hiked up and down there literally hundreds of times. As a kid there was no trail but the older kids would show us which washouts where the rain eroded a bald spot down the side of the mountain to go up and then try to remember to come back down on LOL. I used to hike that trail at night with no flashlight but I used to know every nook an cranny long ago. I would often run down the mountain and this was part of my no surf training that I did when there was no surf

This is a video of hiking the Napali coast trail into Kalalau. I have done this trail all the way in maybe 15 or 20 times and part way in maybe 4 times that amount. In this video they say 11 miles in 9 hours but back in the day I used to do this trail 11 miles in 4 hours back when I was young crazy and very fit.

I haven't ever surfed this break although I have lived on this island for more than 60 years. Must be a good day because everyone is out.

This break is called shipwrecks because there used to be a shipwreck on the shore. It has changed a lot. The wreck is gone and it used to be a boulder strewn beach but now mostly sand. There is a hotel right there now and you use the parking lot they built for that beach access. I paipo boarded there initially long ago and then surfed there in the days before leashes and used my homemade board there because I didn't want to ding my other boards. Haven't surfed there in around 40 years

This is a video about big wave surfing and the psychological aspects from the mind of Greg Long. I kind of understand all this because I have dabbled in big waves 3 times. Once in steep tubing waves with 35 foot faces and twice in less steep waves with 40 foot faces. It's really thrilling but almost died in one of those three outings. It's like 23 minutes so if you have the time check it out.

This is a break I spent a lot of time surfing long ago. One of the guys is a childhood friend of mine he is riding a longboard and switches stance.
