Surfing alone

Postby CCsurf » Mon Oct 24, 2005 11:52 pm

I have been surfing for about a year and a half by myself never have gone out with another person. That a very good idea? I live on the central coast and usually surf morro bay rock. I never gave it much thought untell one of my friends told me that they have heard about some dieing.

I dont mind surfing alone, if somethings going to happen, it will still probably happen when you are with someone. Granted, your friend could help you, but if noone can go, what can you do? I wouldnt not surf just because i couldnt find someone to go with me.
whoa, i dont think i made a lick of sense there... :?

i mean yeah going by yourself sucks but theres always that one guy thats always there. Make freinds with him unless your that guy. He'll probably be wearing like a neon pink and yellow or green wetsuit. Good luck

Try telling that to Jeff Clark!
Personally surfing with your mates is much more fun though, it can take the edge off the clean up sets and makes me feel more at ease which really helps my surfing.
However when i'm kitesurfing i much prefer to kite alone, strange really as this is probably got more potetial hazards.

Cheers KS

ive actually never gone surfing WITH someone. ive seen guys i know out there but never planned anything. i taught my self, the very first time was by myself in the poaring rain 3 years ago. nothing to it. some other guy wont save your lfe when you break your neck or get attacked by a shark, and if you are saveable theres usually other surfers.

"yeah, well you're always alone anyway.

That's the test of a surfer to ride alone, you shouldn't have to rely on anybody but yourself"

Actually yea I am that guy thats always there. I love the feeling of just being out there by youself with just waves. I guess I shouldnt complain no line up or competetion. But if anyone is from around here then they should look me. And then if you have ever surfed the central coast by the rock you will know that the currents are extremely dangerous and no life guards are ever on duty unless summer time. O well ill just shut up and keep enjoying the waves while I can.

I prefer to go with someone. I think it pushes you to go out in conditions that are more than you'd normally try.

i'm stuck out there by my self alot it seems, i personally think its better for your surfing and life to go with someone, even if its just a random guy out there. i think meetin people (and chicks! :D ) is probably the best part of surfing.

"Wow, did you see that?"

"See what?"

"Me! On that last wave! Double overhead, bashed the lip, down the face, oh so tight and smooth bottom turn, then way high air, tail slide, then pulled into that barrel for, like, 30 seconds!"

"What are you talking about? It was 3ft of closing out mush, and your board never left the water, and it weren't no tail slide, you were just wobblin' about, and it doesnt count as a barrel when it closes out on your head and pushes you off your board. Idiot"

Surfing with someone else keeps you grounded in reality, but surfing alone lets you keep your delusions

Well thats all very true. I have to admit though I do go seek out spots where no one usually surfs. If a spot is crowded ill go miles to find a spot with no one there. Meh ill shut up now and just enjoy the surf.Oh and I guess I should clearify I have been surfing for a year and a half solid as in if you would wake up everyday and go surfing for a year and a half every day. Yes I have a lot of spare time and yes I will drive the intire central coast for surf. Yes im addicted
