New Board Size Help

Postby Christian903 » Wed Apr 29, 2020 3:04 am

What’s up guys, I’m looking to purchase a new board and need some help. I’ve been surfing almost 2 years now over here in NJ with a 5’7 34L board. So I can paddle on waves and get up on waves but my problem is I’m not consistent, and I often tend to lose footing on pop ups and wipe out. So I’m wondering if I should go to a 6’8-7” board to practice more on especially when waves are small here in jersey which they often are, or on the other hand if I should stick with the 5’7 and keep practicing.

Thanks

1) Wrong temperature wax ? Try go one level cooler. Cold instead of cool.

2) Traction pad ?

3) Running with the ball before you catch the ball ?

Question: What foot is coming off and how ?

Keep practicing what ? Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. If you practice wrong, you get better AT wrong.

If you have pop up issues, you most likely shouldn't be on a 5'7 board, unless you're very small and light (a child).

5'7" is very short for a 2 year surfer, I would think you would have started with something bigger, but since you already used it for 2 years I would say just go bigger, should make a world of difference.

What is your weight/height?

My favorite learning shortboard (as opposed to learner board) was a 6'4 x 19 3/4 x 2 1/2, more volume but still small enough to duckdive easy. I would get a 5 fin setup, ride quads in mushy or small waves, thruster on big or walled days. Just based on my experience, I was 165lbs when I was seeing down in size.
