Wayne Lynch footage

Postby ConcreteVitamin » Fri Mar 27, 2020 6:30 pm

Looking at fascinating footage of Wayne Lynch. Presumably surfing the Double Ender?

The ease with which he turns the board completely on rail is fascinating.

More impressively -- it seems to me the board allows the back foot to be placed much further forward when turning, in front of the fin.

See ~2:10 and images:

Anyone surfed one or has experience with one that can comment on this design?

(By the way, I found the term "double ender" confusing. It's supposed to say the nose and tail, arbitrarily determined at 1' from either tip, look the same. But it's a wide point back design. The term for some reason makes me think it's supposed to be symmetric tip to tip.)

Lynch was a great surfer, I really like his style. But he was was 16 in this video so basically I hate him for being so good so young :-D

I don’t know much about the board but, as you say, lots of rail turns. The board looks pretty thin, I imagine that is why it works - he just buries the rail fairly easily with a bit of weight transfer.

Also it’s a single fin so maintains speed and you will notice the turns are much more sweeping (wider radius) than would be the case for many modern surfers.

The board has a rolled V that was a modified version of the strong Vs that were fashionable at the time.

Wayne Lynch was a surfing prodigy, See if you can find an early Coke Surfabout Competition, Wayne Lynch versus Larry Blair at Manly :D
