How to Enjoy the Beach by Roxy Ridgeback

Roxy turned 10 years old on 30 AUG 2019. Due to relatively high Summer temps, uncooperative tides, billie's new job's travel, and wonderful multi-week visit from billie's lovely niece from Cologne, Roxy & billie have had scant adventures. But, this intrepid duo managed to enjoy Saturday evening at their beloved Gaviota Coast. This was how they celebrated Roxy's birthday. As usual, it was just the two of them in this absolutely pristine wilderness. The Gaviota Coast was stunning! They made the most of it, even taking long rests while admiring the incoming tide's waves.

In addition to the video of Roxy making "Sand Angels," here's some still shots of what we saw. The first photo shows Santa Cruz Island across the Santa Barbara Channel as viewed from the ranch we traversed. View is South. This island, as well as, Santa Rosa Island to the west, was so large that it supported commercially viable ranching operations for decades.

Roxy hunted ground squirrels along the way.

Looking north away from the channel, one can see the Santa Ynez Mountains. I spend a lot of time in these mountains with Roxy, motorcycles, and 4-wheel drive truck. The seem to go north nearly forever and the beauty in the wilderness beyond these mountains rivals the natural beauty offered by the USA's southwestern states of Utah and New Mexico.

Pink lilies. Thanks to Winter precipitation that curbed a 9 year drought, we continue to enjoy wildflowers. It was a surprise to find these.

Cool shade in small cave provides refuge from strong sun. Incoming tide and no surf today. This is okay, because we had the entire pristine Gaviota coast to ourselves.

Now for some rock art or rock art! Remember, I carry professional geologist licensure from two US states. So this stuff floats my boat. The photo showing the square rolling rock was shot 90 degrees clockwise from how it uploaded. If you click it, then it will display properly.

They’re absolutely right, there is not one shred of evidence of a trace of moss.
Maybe it needed to be a little boulder!
But the Flysch is willing!

Roxy appreciates that Ol' Man and BoMan always provide likes for her. While she's a large dog, she's a sensitive girl that wants to be loved. Roxy is delighted that dtc, Ian, and tom, as well as her buddies, Ol' Man & BoMan, enjoyed her video above.

I can hear the Billy Shadows on guitar playing Apache, although it should be Chumash!

The Morini is a distress device appearing in the various interpretations of surfing mythos. It is a specially modified Klieg searchlight with a stylized symbol that projects a large emblem on the sky or buildings of Santa Barbara. It's commonly used when help is needed to find good restaurants, repair broken boards or figure out where the waves are breaking.
