Surf holiday , soft board or longboard

Postby Kieran151 » Sat Jun 22, 2019 7:11 pm

I'm going to peniche for 5 days on Tuesday and I'm going to rent a board over there , I currently surf a foamie and can pop up , down the line , pump it and turn of the end section , happily kick out. Forecast is small 1-3ft ish, but looking good , offshore long period swell , should I rent a foamie or go for a high volume longboard , thanks

You can hire well shaped foam top longboards at Peniche, quite a few choices, have a good look around, there are good hard boards too! Enjoy experimenting try some different boards or pick one you like and go with it the whole time!

How's your ribs ? The reason why I ask is that if you're not used to riding "hard" boards, the little bumps and contact with your body from a softboard, is way different than on a hardboard. Plus riding a wave, softboards are more forgiving and in your case, more familiar.

But most rental places will let you swap out boards if it's not to your liking ( unless there's different pricing for soft vs. hard )

They do have both in Baleal, hardboards are mostly popouts. They will allow you to switch. f you want to try very good traditionally glassed longboards, check the Fatum factory slightly outside of Peniche, they have all their shapes as rentals.
