Surf Dreams

Postby LostAtSea » Tue Mar 12, 2019 5:11 pm

I've been having lots of surf dreams lately - always weird waves in weird circumstances....I haven't been out enough lately and the times I have been out have been meh conditions.

Anyone else have them? And why do you think you have surf dreams? Are they good waves or are they frustrating situations?

I broke a board in a dream recently. I can’t say I’ve had a lot of surf dreams, but a few. No barrels lol.

Every once in a while I have them but fairly rare I guess. Mine are often good waves but not the best I have had. It just seems to be some random thing
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

One I had last night the waves were going in the opposite direction - away from shore.

That's similar to my experiences. Odd rides.

The thing is, I find surfing somewhat dreamlike to begin with. I guess it's the weightlessness and the concept of thinking where you go, very similar to flying dreams I sometimes have.

So when I surf in my dreams, it feels like it's very lucid.

Good topic!

I had a strange surf dream last night. I went to this great spot, that only existed in my dream I later realised. To find an enormous warship parked in the area the wave should build up. To top it off, there was a brick walled 'parking spot' build around it, open in front. No wave came through.
In my dream the presence of the ship made sense, but why I can't remember..

Dreams for me are usually manifestations of frustration/anxiety, probably like the dream you experienced. I've had the one where I forget my wetsuit. Someone else mentioned that in the other thread.

Oddly, I've been having good (although weird) rides in my last few surf dreams. Like your, very strange locations - places where there shouldn't be waves.

Sorry guys, I didn't realize there was a thread already going on this, can we combine them?

I dont dream (well, I probably do but never remember them), but instead of counting sheep trying to fall asleep I imagine myself on a super long point wave just doing slow top and bottom turns and cutbacks for minutes at a time. Its very relaxing. I guess its my 'calm place'.

I do the same - very meditative. Clears my mind of anxiety. That's probably why I dream of surf. Speaking of surf as stress relief, I just got back from a spa with my wife. I was great to spend time together and she loves the spa, we got massages, hot tub, mineral pool, all that stuff, but between SW and myself, nothing relaxes me like a day of surf, and it's a helluva lot cheaper.

whenever I don't surf for more than a week, I dream about trying to go surfing but always forgetting something at home, like my wetsuit. Waves are always in some sort of inlet / small area.

I had a dream last night that my wife caught her first wave, and she was giddy like a schoolgirl! What fun!

Any chance of that becoming a reality? I’m guessing if it’s occupying your mind at night it’s something you would like to see happen!

I doubt it, she doesn’t even go in the water. Like, at all. I guess you never know, though!

I'm constantly getting dreams where I'm underwater and I have to hold my breath but I can't pop up. I wake up always after such dreams with a faster heat-rate and gasping for air. Something is wrong with me, may be that's why I don't want to go into heavy surf.

Speaking from my own experience, those dreams usually reflect other stress in my day to day. I’m going to guess it’s not directly related to a fear while surfing.
