Surfer Survey Results

The non-scientific results are based on responses from 5000 US surfers. Does this describe you?

Good thing they didn’t come here, they might have ended up in Shoredump!
Would have liked to see this real survey as a change from the survey monkey pap!
They even have a disclaimer that it only roughly considers US surfing data!
about bloody time so it stays on main page! :lol:

Hard to believe some of the statistics considering all the cursing and yelling that happen in the waters :roll:

For what it's worth, here's my profile. Surfing is a lifestyle for me because there's so much to do beyond riding a board...swimming for paddle fitness, skating for balance, life long learning about the ocean and of course reading this forum to keep stoked. :D

* I have a bachelor's degree and teaching credential.
* At 68, I'm double the median age. Holy %#$!
* Sadly, I can only get to the coast about 30 times/yr.
* The round trip mileage for one sesh is 116.
* I have 2 longboards, a battleship for tiny summer waves and a nose rockered stick for winter.
* I've been an active surfer for 20 years...most of it when I was young.
* I'm usually in the water 2 hours in the AM followed by a break and 2 more in the PM.
* Other than gas and wear and tear on the car, my expenses are 0. That will change big time when my grandson is old enough to join me.

Looking at the actual report, I find it interesting that the median individual annual income is $75k but only 65% have full-time employment. That's from 2011 when the survey was done. Curious to know what it is now (and how I can get a cushy, part-time job that pays $75k/year!).

maybe the data is skewed towards rich surf bums, or people inflated their salary

They got the male part right but I am older, poorer, closer to the beach spend less money, have more boards spend less time, surfed more years, and have a higher level of education
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
