I always lift my legs while paddling into a wave and it makes sense that it would also help with body surfing. Can't believe I never thought of trying it.

Legs up moves your weight more forward although generally with fins on you might just leave them back and kick a little if you need more speed.. You can try that paddling into a wave surfing as well. For bodysurfing the skill set is different and while most people who get into body surfing use fins, if you want to learn to do it when you lose your board you had better do it with no fins since that will be the state of things when you lose your board . I learned to body surf with no fins and graduated to fins after I was used to riding waves with up to 10 foot faces.
