Where to surf in South America for a week

Sorry if this isn’t the right spot for this. Late next month I’m heading to Argentina for a few months for school. Before I make it down there I wanted to stop off somewhere else in South America to surf for a week. I’ll be traveling solo. My gf is paranoid so Brazil is off the table as she thinks I’ll get kidnapped.

I’d like to hang out in a surf hostel and won’t be bringing a board so I’d need to rent. Any recommendations or ideas? My Spanish is intermediate so I can get around.
