I found it amazing in SE Asia and Taiwan, and parts of Japan , there was colour prejudice, about tans on people of their own society!
I’ve seen similar in Europe too! But it is not racial, it is class based, simply if you have a tan you must be working class, a peasant in the fields.
Saw it first hand in Bali, a highly qualified very beautiful good family girl who surfed and so was browner, being unsuitable for a hotel job because she wasn’t pale enough to signify higher class!
