Jobos in Isabela PR

Looking to take a short 5 day trip to PR in a few weeks and am liking the Aguadilla area on NW coast. I found an awesome private studio right on Jobos in Isabela with all the fun stuff conducive to surfing like an outdoor shower and surf racks, etc. Some of the things I've read seem to point out that Jobos has a really dangerous rip and I will be traveling and likely surfing alone so that's my only real reservation. There are zero lifeguards or warnings. I'm a strong swimmer, still a beginner surfer for the most part but am progressing a bit. Jobos this time of year looks good for my skill level from what I can tell (even though it's mostly rights and I'm goofy but oh well). Any tips/tricks you can provide? Thanks in advance!

Well Kookrachelle, it looks like a good spot, the reef bottom will set the rips as a fixture, one is likely at the rock end at Punta Jacinto straight out in front of the surf shop, if you look on Google Earth you can see guys sitting on their board, that rip,will be in the deeper Channel between the headland and the Reef, that Reef is likely a localised spot, but there looks to be good reforms closer to shore still with lefts and rights on the reef. At the other end away from Punta Jacinta the swell direction is likely to make a stronger rip using most of the water movement, i think that would be the more dangerous rip.

There are several surf shops on the beach, go in and ask about the beach safety there and get an ideal of local,attitudes,. Respect and acknowledging the locals, identity will get you lots of information and maybe some other lesser known breaks too!

awesome, thanks! yeah, he told me about his experiences and I searched for "Jobos" before starting a new thread but nothing came up in the search. hmmm

BaNZ, myself and a couple of others almost went to Aguadilla last month, but sadly I couldn't get off work and nobody can join me this trip.

I'm surprised how much you were able to find out about the rip direction and learn about the break just by looking at the map! That can only be attained through many years of experiences. Yes, you're right about Jacinto. There's a rip that takes you straight out to the lineup. You will also see the local kids jumping off the cliff when the wave crashes onto the rocks. It looks crazy but I'm sure they know what they are doing.

I posted a video of Jobos but I don't want to draw too much attention to it. I love that break and it wasn't too crowded. I like to keep it that way.

I can't give much information on it either because in some beach I've been to, rip can change direction during winter season. Plus I was only surfing 2-3 feet waves when I was there during Spring/Summer. When kookyRach goes there, it will be 5 feet plus+ if she is lucky. One thing I know is that it is a point reef break so you just need to sit at the reef and wait for the wave to roll in. I was there when it was mid to high tide and even when I fell off, my feet did not touch the bottom. Google research warns that there are many sea urchins so I would wear some kind of booties just to be safe. I surfed without a wetsuit.
