Can somebody tell me what type of board this is?

Postby Tjvaz11 » Mon Nov 12, 2018 1:29 pm

Somebody gave this used board to me as a gift, and I was wondering what type of board it is and what kind of waves it is best for. It is 7’0 and has a single fin. Any info or suggestions is appreciated as I am still getting into the game and have really only been using foamies and longboards so far.
Thanks.

I’m sure others here know WAAAY better than I, but I’d call it a retro single fin pin tail funboard hahahahaha! Seriously, that’s what it is, but it can probably be described in fewer words lol. The volume up front will help get you into waves, the narrow, pulled in sides and tail will make it loose AF. A fin with enough surface area will keep it under control, though. I was looking at a similar board on Craigslist but the dude never got back to me. Looks like fun for sure!

Nice looking board; would be beyond your ability at this stage. Would work well on the hollow reef breaks around here. Clean that up, strip off the wax and check it over for dings and cracks. Fix it up and set it aside for clean days with good waves for the future.

It would probably still be classified as a shortboard back when it was made. But it looks like it was made for good sized steep Hawaiian waves (up to 30 foot faces). Or it could be a retro board made like those back then (when I learned to surf). There is a worldwide company called Sunset Surfboards that still makes boards. You might contact them for more information
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

That is a beautiful board. Beak / Eagle nose, Glossed polished / Pin lines. So retro it even has a “ Stick-On “ leash plug.

But what is the actual question you are asking ? “ Is this a good board for me to learn on ? “. No. Boards have evolved from that 70’s era outline and rail. ( although the hipster are digging those right now )

Here’s the one on CL that I never heard back on. He wanted $100. Sad trombone.
