When the 2 Mile surf report says BO is "calm and serene with a handful of liquorice jelly beans thrown on top," I go to Dillon Beach. The waves peel for a few blissful seconds then close out creating great conditions to practice floaters.

That's a great way to look at closeouts!

I like in that phil edwards video @ 5:37 where he steamrolls the drop in without even breaking stride....goes right through the nose of his board......looks like Phil doesn't play!

Yeah, that's why I looked Phil Edwards up. I wanted to see what the rocker was like on those early longboards. It just goes to show you that you can take off on a steep, 6 foot Pipeline wave with almost no rocker in your board (see video of Edwards' first recorded surf at Pipe). It helps, of course, to have a longboard.
