Another benefit for "Small in stature", "Vertically challenged", "Height deficient", "short" surfers other than that we can fit into smaller barrels is ......................... you can fit into Youth/Kids size 16. And find a Quiksilver Syncro 5/4/3 with hood on discount for $80 usd.

Nice....I hit size 12 shoes at 11 years old and wear 14-15's now (brand dependent - 49-50)....I've had to pay extra and special order shoes since I was a teenager. My father is 6'7" can't buy clothes anywhere but the big and tall store so he wears jeans cut from the 80s and a lot of plaids.

BTW, I'm so glad that "cold" here means a 2mm short john and is needed only for 6 weeks.

I lived in japan in the early 1980s (parents were diplomats) and my poor dad (size 12 shoes) wasn’t able to buy new shoes for the entire time, other than when we did a trip to Europe (no internet then!). One of the few men who travels to Europe and comes back with a suitcase full of shoes.

I was going to say " well, what about the Sumo wrestlers ? They got big feet. " Then I realized they wear "Geta" ( Japanese clog sandals / slippers ) not shoes.

Just a side note; I lived in Yokohama during the Vietnam war.....Navy brat. I was taken my father to Sumo one day. I got to meet Takamiyama, AKA Jesse James Wailani Kuhaulua , Hawaiian born wrestler at the top of the sport at the time. We bought his book there and he signed it when we met him. My father still has that book on the shelf.

BTW, I can't buy shoes here either. Can't get them delivered; they get stolen at customs. For the past 13 years I've waited until my annual trip back stateside to buy shoes, enough for the year. DTC, me and your father have a common experience.

as a teenager my shoe size went from 7 EEE to 10.5 EEE. Unfortunately i had to wear shoes to high school. Until then I was barefoot mostly. Even in high school shoes came off immediately after school. The only place on Kauai that had that size was the Army Surplus store and the only model available were these black round toed crepe soled shoes which were so out of style.....maybe that is why I care so little about fashion these days. But now I can buy tennis shoes in that size online or on Kauai so I no longer share that pain. But used to be the only way I could wear tennis shoes was to buy them 2 sizes too long and even then my pinky toe would rapidly create a hole in the side of the shoe so it could come out for some air. My wife can probably buy childrens size wetsuits though

Takamiyama’s kid went to my school (a few
years younger)! I saw him heaps of times and even pounded mochi with him once. He used to turn up to school festivals and fetes and put on a performance.

He was certainly a big guy for the times (6’3 and 400lb) and seemsed like a nice guy, although I was more a Kitanoumi and then Chiyonofuji fan. Going for the best!
