Go for the fish.

You said in your other post that your shortboard was sinking when you were surfing on small waves - so you need to get much more speed, and if you're on small waves then the fish will be best for this :D

Fishes (or hybrids) are, in my opinion anyway, the most fun things to surf on anything below headhigh :D

Get a custom board!

How long have you been surfing? If you are comfortable on your shortboard, it's time to move up a gear and get a 'proper' surfboard!

im thinking of getting a fish myself, i've been surfing my 7'4" funboard for about 3 months, and i now, im looking for more maneuverability, and i dont think im ready for a shortboard yet..a fish would be a great beginner board for someone who wants to do shoartboarding eventually, so i suggest u get a fish, it's wider, thicker and works like a shortboard, my two cents :)

Buying a custom... :D

Get down to your local surf shop and talk to the shaper - describe what you want and they'll guide you in the right direction, and between the two of you you'll come up with a set of dimensions for a nice new board 8)

Remember - when talking to the shaper, honesty is the key! If you're a beginner, let them know otherwise the board they make wont be suitable.

Normally takes a few weeks for the board to be shaped, and will cost a little more than your £250, but its worth every penny.

Alternatively, you can probably find an 'off the peg' custom fish - there are loads about. Get to somewhere with a few surf shops and have a look at a range of styles and sizes

I rode a 7'4" a few years back and went to a JS 5'8 x 18½ x 2¾ fish. After that board I got a 6' custom shaped to be 18" wide and 2 1/8" thick. I actually prefer the 6' in terms of manoeuvrability and with a set of H2s it's faster than the fish was with a set of K2.1s.

I think he meant more manuverable than the 7'4" funboard, not the shortboard. Either way though, fishes are great - I like tuna

wow i so disagree, unless your gona hit some heavy xxxxx fish's are great...right now im surfing NC with a few friends and all i use is a twinnie hybrid fish...most of the time its around knee or waist.... if you get one made get it with a 3rd fin spot so you can throw a small third fin in if you want some tighter control....you deff want a custom board made cuz it will be for your weight....you can specify your nose and tail dimensions....any good shaper will be able to hook you up better then some mainstream board bought at some chain shop.
