Bali surf camps- ps I'm back!

Postby benjl » Sun May 27, 2018 9:46 pm

Hey guys!

Long time lurker is back
So my mates wife has given him a hall pass for a lads surf trip of about a week. I suggested Bali rather than going to the pacific islands.

Big H- it would be awesome to catch up, have a beer and go for a surf with you if you're still over there?

Do you or anyone have any good Bali surf camp recommendations?
My mate hasn't really surfed properly in awhile so he's looking more at the camps for tutoring etc.
I've still got my custom 5'9 and a 6'4 wade tokoro step up that I never even used so should hVe the right boards ready to go!

Also- suggested times of year with consistent swell?

Glad to hear you've recovered from your injury. Bali sounds like a good way to jump back into it. Have fun.

Still here....swell season is on until October like Jaffa said....I hate surf camps; cancer on the waves.....however if I was going to recommend one it would be Padang2 surf camp only because I see that they are rabid for their guests and will stop at nothing to help them get a wave including pulling my leash rope when I'm paddling in, blocking me off, etc. If you are on the inside it will be gold.

I stayed at Rapture Surf camp a couple years back. It's pretty remote, down on the south side of the island. But the accommodations were nice and they will take you to some good surf spots.

3 days and counting before I'm off.. yeoww!

Been doing a lot of pool swimming in prep over the past 2 months and basicall relearning how to surf!
Had a solid 20-30min non stop paddling just to get out last Friday. Report was saying 1.4m and when I turned up there were solid double overheaders dumping all over the place! Good paddle practice none the less!!

Any last min Bali tips?
Hope to catch big h and tudeo over there if poss

Swell has been more manageable lately as well as the shoulder season crowds. I've had 2 days off in the last 25 with no break in sight but I'm sure you'll have a blast!

Howzit. Ha I figured next time we hear from you it will be about starting SUP foiling. I just saw one of my old time surf buddies and he was on an SUP foil. It was only 6'6". I really don't quite understand it but then he is probably a really good surfer so he needs a challenge and it's good for riding junk waves. However I can out paddle him on my 8 foot board and foils apparently can't ride the nice steep and hollow waves very well. hope you have a good time.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

haha sorry to disappoint guys, only prone surf related chat this time

Strangely I still haven't foiled yet! Basically all my mates and everyone is telling me to, but my local waves are not the size or type that foiling is made for. I also don't have any easy trial equipment and a set up is a good few thousand $!
You're right though- they are not made for steep or hollow waves and rules out about 95% of my local conditions hah.

1 more day until bali.. can't wait!

I'm taking my 5'9 custom and a 6'4 wade tokoro step up which i'd brought nearly 2 years ago and never used!
Hoping to maybe buy a fish while i'm over there or something I can still surf on going forwards.

Await pics of the trip to come :D
