Fin Advice

Postby mikeygreengiant » Tue Aug 21, 2018 2:28 pm

Im just getting into the all the intricacies of fins, iv got various fins for my 10foot log, however wanting some advice on changing my fins on my 8foot mini Mal. its only setup to have a three fin set up, at the moment its fairly ridged and cruise, wanting to see if changing the fins could make it a bit looser and faster, and what shape fins too go for, to get these results?

Mikey read through the fin primer here on this very forum.
Fins will change a lot of the dynamics in the way your board surfs.
A lot will be determined by your fin system and the the boxes or plugs it uses, if you have a centre fin box you have some options.
Single, 2+1 , set ups and centre fin positioning.
Read the primer come back with further question.
Bottom contours of your mini mal too!

Where is the fin primer? Is it in the discussion forum or the gear guide? There doesn’t seem to be anything specifically titled fin primer found using the search feature nor in the gear guide. TIA

struggling to find the fin primer, but its a tri fin setup with FCS.
im thinking I want Fins with a small rake, and not much cant for a bit more speed. a reasonable base length to drive through turns and mid length for grip?

So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Can't give advice without knowing the current thruster set up on your 8'0". Is it FCS M5 ( or black G5 ) ? Is it the Futures Fins F4 ? If you could post a photo of the fins and the tail.
