7'2 x 22" x 2 5/8" (51L) -> 6'10 x 21.45" x 2.73" (41L)

Hey all, wondering it this would be a good ''next step" board. I want to ride a shortboard and am 5'9, 185lbs. Surfing usually 5 days a week on a reefbreak. The 7'2 has a swallow tail and the 6'10 has a pintail.
Would I be able to duck dive this board?

based solely on dimensions it seems fine (although the volume seems lowish for a 6'10 board); indeed if you are surfing a 7'2 then you could probably go shorter. However, it would be more useful if you can link the actual board, because the outline, tail, rails, nose, rocker etc are still pretty important (and, also - who does boards in 21.45 and 2.73! Seems like a euro site has just metricised the inches measurement)

41L at 185lb should be duck diveable, but the depth you can get it down to may not be enough for some of the bigger waves (eg you might be able to get it, say, 4ft underwater, meaning with your body you are only 2ft under the surface. Fine for smaller waves or through the waves, but not if you get a full bomb just in front of you). As to whether you can get it to 4ft, not sure - it might be a bit less depending on technique

I'll ask a Honest question in response, WHY do you want to ride a Short(er)board ?? Can you give two reasons why ?

Would I be able to duck dive this board?

Can you "sort-of" duck dive your current 7'2" now ? If not, then NO, you won't be able to duck dive the 6'10".

Guys your size in Hawaii duck dive 9'0"s. There's a technique for big boards to get the rail to sink under and then the rest of the board.

As for the board i'm getting, its a local brand, and the dimensions are handwritten on the back of the board, so no link!

I can sort of duck dive the 7'2, and I know what you mean about ''not deep enough for stronger wave"

I learnt to duck dive a 6'6 40L earlier this year and now I can duck dive my 6'10 47L I am a bit heavier than you though at just under 200lbs.

But as dtc has said you might not get it under very far like me on my 6'10 so when it gets bigger I take my 6'6 out as I can get deeper under the waves.

I'm not sure I could of learnt how to duck dive on my 6'10 though, I did try to learn on a 6'9 with 49L and couldn't get anywhere near that's why I tried a 6'6 just to learn to duck dive.
