FCS II Grub Screws

Postby GromSized » Wed Jul 25, 2018 11:01 am

Tried searching but didn't find a topic that addressed my query... First time FCS II user here and I'm a little concerned about reports of fins falling out, hence, I'm looking to use grub screws on mine as insurance. Do you recommend using both grub screws or is using just the rear sufficient?

Both , one means undue force on one point!

I have been using my FCS2 for over a year now, no lost fin yet. If you plan to leave the fins in all the time, then I guess you can also use the grub screws. But I need to take the fins out each time to fit multiple boards in the car.
Are you using the stock blue-ish glass flex or the more expensive models ?

I lost several neo glass fins on my last board (thruster, always lost a side fin) and then used both screws to secure them.

On my current longboard, i use a 2+1 setup with the center Fin a FCS2 longboard fin, and that so far stays without screws.

Thanks everyone!
@waikikikichan, Neo Glass Performers to be exact. It's my first and only FCSII board (for now) so they'll stay on semi-permanently. I'll take them off maybe twice or thrice a year when I have to travel by plane.
@Oldie, would you happen to know exactly how they came off? Was it your leash?

If you read up on all the lost FCS2 fins, it seems a lot were the Neo Glass version. Think they constructed them too narrow at first. But what’s funny, for the amount of post about “losing fin” there’s equal amount of post regarding “can’t get them out”.

Interesting... I wonder when the issue's been resolved and how one is supposed to know which batch of fins he has.
I have no experience with other FCS construction types but these neo glass ones don't appear to have a lot of give. Would it be alright to dremmel a shallow dimple on the tabs for the grub screws to engage?

I lost all my fins during wipeouts, so I believe it is the leash that tears the fin out.
