hey thats cool about saunton and Croyde, i usually go to peranporth but its just too far to travel when you are paying for petrol yourself! looks like croyde this time, have you been?

if you have any advice about down there i would be gratefull!!! im gonna go about october time, thinking that the cold weather would put people off and it wouldnt be that busy?

(the cold water should put off the male naked surfers at least!)

by the way what does lmao mean??

Hi Jennie ,

Croyde" ?! .. yeh its a good spot ! , i normally go around the corner to Saunton as Croyde can be a little unforgiving for a beginner .." although its gotta be said i've been caught in some wicked rips at Croyde which i know most people have fear of but i kinda like it .. " forces of nature taking ya for a ride"

Saunton is a little more gentle most times and a little more predictable so its good for a newby like me . I know a lot of guys use Croyde so im sure other peeps on the forum can give you a little more info :D

p.s .. "LMAO .. 'laughing my ass off'

Cheeze

There are a few others on the boards that would have the same sordid thought processes as you!!

Apparently Penhale corner in Perranporth is a nudist beach so you may get the odd 'tackle out take-off' there!!

cheers cheezee,

yea i have heard about the rips at croyde, been caught in one at low tide in peranporth myself...hmmm im going down with a friend who has only surfed a couple of times so maybe saunton is a better option if it is a bit smaller......

have you been down at october time at all?
I thought it might be a little less busy because of the colder weather?

Jennie

What kind of board have you got?

If you've got a shortboard you may struggle in Saunton. The waves are long and slow, really a great longboard wave. I wouldn't suggest it if you ride anything less than a mini-mal.

There are other options, like Puttsborough for example.

I have surfed Saunton in Oct/ Nov. I was supposed to be going on the 8th Oct this year but things have come up.

It shouldn't be too cold. Summer suit with boots and maybe gloves will probably do!

Cheers

i have a 7 8" mini mal....do ya reckon thats long enough for saunton?

i dont think the cold should be a problem, i have surfed up in the hebredies at christmas before and that was pretty dam cold! i have gloves and boots and stuff so it should be fine

where abouts is Puttsborough??

Sounds like you have a great board for Saunton.

I love the place, you can get some super long rides there.

Puts is the other side of Croyde somewhere, it's been so long since I've been I can't remember if it's the next beach or not.

Look at www.beachwizard.com for details!!

Cheers

Hey Sinista :D & jennie

... " yeh , i'd go with what sinista said ..less than a mini-mal and you'd be struggling !.
As to the cold ..hehe ..last year i went in right up to november just wearing a shorty -no boots or gloves  ..only last about 30mins thru nov' but Oct i was able to stay in for an hour before my toes got real painfull ... so if you've been surfing the hebrides ( hardcore temperatures!) ... then i reckon you'll be fine for an afternoon down in Saunton with a full suit on !!

" any one else surf Jan the 2nd just wearing a shorty ??! ... went in at woolacombe for 10mins ..damn that was stoopid and quite dangerous .. i had to be carried of the beach but " yeee-haaaar i was the only one in and the only one out of our crew that stayed in  ... " as long as i win a bet , i'll risk mere death " :?

I've only done it the once and I'm not sure I would again.

I was seriously hung over because it was the millenium, but I couldn't think of a better way to see in the new millenium than paddling out.

We were going out whatever conditions were - it didn't matter if it was 6 inches and snowing!!

I'll tell you something that wasn't 6 inches after that though!!

:)
