Just like Nicola (I presume), I'd be more than happy to get an answer of what the difference between carbon and fiber glass board.

You know the dude and so you may understand his ways. I don't know him and as stranger I am merely pointing out that his comment came across as being a little harsh.

Any one who reads his first comment would think it's a dumb a blonde joke. I for one did and I pretty sure I can relate to how Nicola must feel.

Let me put it in your perspective. If you didn't know the dude and the dude say things like that to you then you would feel like a fool for asking.

I've met many experience surfer and your friend is definitely not the friendliest kind when answering question to a person he doesn't know. There is such thing as being a little more courteous to someone you don't know.

Please, forgive me for speaking my mind.

damn man shut up, you could at least do a step better than just contradicting brent on what he says and at least give some opinion, I don't even think you know what they are.

But like he said, just asking about carbon boards is way to vauge, there's lots that has to do with carbon.

stick to the topic

Please forgive me for having feelings, being sensitive and speaking my mind. It looks like being witty and cracking joke about others is something acceptable here but not when you speak your mind.

All of you know Brent the nice dude, I don't. And as a stranger I am merely expressing how his approach come accross as being harsh. Is that really hard for you guys to accept ?

And please, leave the nationality alone. I am not even Irish. I just happen to be located in Ireland.

As for localism, I am the kind of person who would leave the beach if the locals ask me to leave. Their wish for people to leave the beach alone for them may be selfish but I will respect it. Call me chicken xxxxx (I'm sure you all would love to) but I just don't see what's the fuss about a particualr beach. There's enough other beaches in the world.

Worry not, I see how this forum works now. I'll take my questions else where. Just like I will leave the beach for the locals for their localism.

Nicola, I will suggest you do the same.

Whoa, didn't mean to post such a controversial topic! lol. Just wanted to know if there was a difference in durability in the material. I don't research that much on surfing I prefer to get out there and learn what I need to know in the water. :D

Thanks sarge, hopefully I won't suck as much as people think I will! ha ha

Borneng, do you know me? I am blonde! Is that very obvious from my post or just coincidental?!

Sorry for causing all the hassle

Wow;
Just as well I didn't log in yesterday isn't it???

When I replied originally I was trying to make a point. The point being when people write posts as questions they are often really vague. So vague in fact you either can't work out what they're REALLY asking...or they're obviously too lazy to read or search on this forum or others for a legitimate & already posted answer. Or even to read the "beginners surfing equipment help guide" kindly supplied above...
This forum is like many, questions already answered 15 times prevously are posed again, the writer has obviously not searched. This is why a newby will write a supposidly legit question (in their eyes)...and nobody responds - or responds with blunt answer, or heaps of people will LOOK at it...and then not reply. Same question, same vagueness, same potential to write a 1000 word essay in reply...and for what?

To the original poster; sorry if my blue car analogy caused you some grief, I was simply trying to say when you ask a question be specifc, ask you question in detail, written word loses much meaning in cyberword and sometimes it's hard to understand what you're REALLY asking.
I did not mean to be patronising or anything, when I said "if you're asking about carbon boards perhaps they're not suitable" I was trying to say that they are (usually) a highly refined and experts board, those in the market for such craft are usually very experienced, knowledegable & well-read (surfing equipment wise). Using another car analogy...like a potential Porsche buyer as opposed to a Toyota Corolla purchaser...Understand?

Wow...I've been "Royed"....*eyeroll*

Nicola, here's what I found about Carbon-fiber material for surfboard.

"Carbon Fiber is about twice as strong and twice as stiff as regular fiberglass."

And worry not Nicola, I am not trying to get into your nickers for these two reasons;
a. I am a woman.
b. I am a happily married heterosexual.

Sorry for that "dumb blonde joke" remarks, it was simply my summary of Brent's comment to your question. The fact that you are blonde is definitely a coincidence.

I think you made a nice choice in purchasing your new board based on it's material and its graphic design (very nice one too may I add). Good luck and have fun with it.

Go on girl, you tell 'em
You may not be Irish but ya got the fightin Irish spirit! Ha ha You should feel right at home here! And who says the Irish got no sense of humour?!

Cheers on answering my post that was exactly what I was looking for

So from this Irish beginner, dropping down to a shortboard with no experience or knowledge (and an overall lazy bugger) who drives a blue toyota corolla, signing out!

Bassically Nicola you don't want a carbon board.

Carbon boards are very stiff, very strong (hard to snap but easy to ding), very light, very rare and very expensive. Nobody uses them (well maybe for big waves they do), not even top pros - they use normal custom fibreglass boards that have less layers of fibreglass mat to make em lighter for comps - but this also makes em frigile as hell.

It would appear the board in the picture you posted was not carbon (carbon boards are blackish in colour and don't have wooden stringers) nor 6'10" x 16 1/4 x 2 3/8. It does look 6'10" long and may well be 2 3/8" thick, but its wider than 16 1/4" - maybe 18 1/4".
Its a v good condition 6'10" diamond tail thruster with FCS - good allround board for an experienced big heavy dude to ride in average waves, and maybe a small light learner might get away with it.

Cheezee, no need to apoligise. It's only natural to think the way you did if you think I'm a guy. But thanks for apology though.

You're more than welcome, I wanted the answer just as much as you did. Although I must say that I really wasn't looking for fight or anything like that. I just think that Brent could have answered in a different manner rather than the way he did. Just like Broosta, giving informative and helpful response. Nothing more frustrating than being slagged off for asking something you don't know. I mean it's hardly a 1000 word essay was it? Perhaps it would have gone a lot better if Brent didn't response to your post at all. And looks like the board is suitable for you after all. Have fun with it.
