In terms of your feet/legs, its more keeping your back knee pointing more forwards and your front foot at 1o'clock (not 3). That will put you more or less in the right position. People always say 'keep knees pointing towards each other' but I'm not sure that is entirely right. The back knee points more forward and the front knee points a bit forward (not at the back knee). Anyway the knees definitely should not be pointing in opposite directions!

I'm not good at giving advice about getting into the right stance. I'm always looking at the wave and I rarely know what my legs and feet are doing. I only become conscious of my stance when it doesn't feel right. I think copying this guy is a good start. The way I see it, you can't go wrong with a stance that works in both surfing and Greco-Roman wrestling.
