surf weekend?

Postby Jasonpopoloski » Thu Mar 01, 2018 7:03 pm

I was looking at the forecast for the weekend. Looks like a huge swell is happening making the waves to be at an epic height. If i was not still somewhat an novice at this i would try and surf the swell this weekend. Looks like an onshore wind not the best for me seeing my pop up time still needs work. Any brave souls going to jump in the water. I may stop by the beach just to see it for myself

Jason go and see, you may not got out but you will gain an understanding of what onshore winds and big swell make as a combination. If it is your regular beach you will understand it a little better!

It's MASSIVE with a strong offshore wind here this weekend (not to mention VERY strong current), and I plan to go out to watch friends have a blast tomorrow. It's definitely way too big for me, but if even a fraction of their joy rubs off on me I'll be glowing for days.

If it's too big at your normal break, then go scouting out places that normally don't break at all. Sometimes those places will be firing nice 2-4 foot waves and you can get them all to yourself. Explore the coastline and see what you find.

Oh if I knew you were going then I would've tagged along. I was going to go and then I opened up the webcam. It was overhead and the shoredump was even bigger. I don't think that was manageable with a longboard, maybe I'll also struggle with a funboard. Looks even bigger tomorrow.

I've been checking the camera and my break looks blown out but up in Maine seems better, though I doubt anyone's out.

So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

hope to be at that level by the end of the summer. may try and go out this weekend depending on what the swell , wave height and direction of the wind. I was looking at magicseaweed and it looks like a nice gentle offshore wind

If you have a Surfline membership, the cam rewind at this spot is fun to watch. It's interesting seeing east coast waves. I think global warming, oddly enough, is going to continue sending great waves to the east coast of the US.
