More fins, we were required to have our surfboards registered for around 10 shillings ,each year, boards would be physically confiscated by the life savers (see above) you had to pay a fine at the end of the confiscation period, each subsequent fine increased.
Some pretty hard confrontations and stealing your boards back and other stuff meant the whole system broke down.

Note the fins have the stickers.

Arguably the hub of surfing on the northern beaches of Sydney, arguably because the southern beaches would say they did their share.
The list of Aussie world champs is northern beaches top heavy.

I forgot to mention in that film they had footage of somewhere in Australia that looked like it could have been Waimea bay. A big huge right of the size that makes Waimea famous.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

At that time it would have most likely the Queenscliff Bombora straight out to sea off Mid Steyne beach and Manly.
See map several posts earlier.

Most popular beaches had a store a board system where you could have your board held in secure racks between surfs for a fee and then you could use public transport to get to the beach. BTW only one beach had a train service Cronulla, the rest had a service like this.

Top deck was always packed with frothing surfers around every bend that showed a beach.

So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Probably not Bombora as it was filmed from an elevated position near the shore Perhaps someone snuck some footage of Waimea into the history of Australian surfing

Try this for size, most rocky beaches in Australia have deep offshore reefs that only wake up on specific and big swells, like cloudbreaks. They are all called bomboras

This one may be your candidate "The German Bank" the last in line of five breaks heading into deeper water South east of Long Reef and about 2 or more miles seawardof Dee Why, during the 60s the effort to get to it required epic water man status, firstly to get offshore and paddle that far and have enough left to ride the wave then get back to shore.

Another Break a never close out Point Break, Fairy Bower,1965 with surf boat and I was out there that Day when this Went through!
https://youtu.be/HIYUqp_1KX4

If you look NE and out to sea , about the middle of the Bay would the Queenscliff bommie and as far as you could see north would be the German Bank a Trifecta of big wave spots.
