What is this plug?

I just bought this used board and it has this plug in it, not sure what is. The guy I bought it from didn't own the board so he wasn't exactly sure what it was. I was told that it's to relieve internal pressure in the board while traveling airborne. I have found other plugs online such as "gore-tex" plugs, but they don't look like the one on my board. From the information I found online, these vent plugs are used for wood surfboards and to prevent delaminating due to heat. The plug on my board has red fabric material in the middle and looks like it can be unscrewed by the grooves on each side. Really looking to find out what this plug is for and if anyone has any information on the plug I have on my board, it'd be much appreciated.

That is trippy. I have never seen that before. The only pressure relief plugs I have see were smaller than the leash plug. What I heard is that for a while that the blanks used on epoxy boards expanded polystyrene EPS would delaminate if they got hot in the sun so the valves were put in to prevent this. Then either the blanks or the process of glassing changed so they are no longer needed.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Well there you go, just search “ Salomon S-Core “ and you’ll see all the images of the chambered internals. The slight blueish color of the board was a dead giveaway. Most of the air valves I’ve seen had to be manually open/closed. Maybe the other owner was lazy and installed a gore-Tex valve.

Alright thanks for the help. I managed to read up on it and get more information.

I paid $150 for it, must be why it was so cheap.
