Surfer Girls...(or guys if you're interested!)

Postby Malibu Barbie » Thu May 06, 2004 6:56 pm

Hey girls!

Just been reading a few posts and I've noticed that quite a few girls seem to be having the "I-can't-talk-to-surfing-guys-without-them-thinking-I'm-trying-to-chat-them-up" problem!!! So I thought I'd start a post for us to swop tips and good/bad guy-mingling experiences! I agree, it is sometimes hard for us coz we kinda have to be 'one of the guys' most of the time if we wanna fit in! Oh well, that's life I guess!

Or hey, are there any guys who would like to argue their case?!

Am interested to see what y'all say...! Later...B x x

Not wanting to be too synical but it's not that easy for a guy to talk to a surfer girl without her thinking he's trying to pick her up either!!

You can't exactly paddle over to a girl and say "So, do you come here often!".

I think this is pretty much a 'life' thing rather than just surfing. It's hard to spark up a conversation with someone of the opposite sex without the 'chat up' thing getting in the way.

I don't really care though, I'll talk to anyone!! LOL

Yeah, I agree with you sinista. I'd talk to anyone too. I've only recently started surfing and must've gone up to at least one guy almost every time I've been out. I don't go up to them to chat them up. I only ever approach someone if I have a query about surfing or something I'm not sure of. I'm one of these people who would rather ask if I don't know. It just makes sense that way. It's a good way to get used to the regulars too, all the guys I've spoken to so far have greeted me the other times I've been out and you start to get used to the familiar faces which is cool.

I'm not single either so it makes it easier to chat to guys and know that you're not chatting them up and as soon as they know you're seeing someone then that's a pretty clear sign too. The majority of my mates are guys anyhow so I'm used to being in that kind of environment. It's just down to the individual I guess, if you're genuinely not intending to chat someone up then you shouldn't feel any harm in going up and talking to them.

Yay! Girls! Sorry, haven't checked this post for aaaages, so hello! Omg both trips would be so cool - I might actually be in Cornwall around 14th August so will check my diary. God that makes me sound like I have a really busy social schedule! Actually, I am pretty busy in the summer, but it would be fantasic ;)

hey, Freaky Welsh Chick! Whereabout in Wales do you live? I used to live in Cardiff but we moved to England ages ago - not a good place to be when supporting the Welsh lads in rugby...!!! I get serious aggro from all my blokie English mates! (Especialy when Wales loses...) Are you doing your GCSEs at the mo? Coz I am too - I could be completely wrong in thinking you're the same age as me...16? Sorry if you're not!

Anyway, keep up the good surfing work ladies ;) !! The more girls we can get into it the better...I kepp working on my friends but it ain't working - they just wanna watch the guys! I keep trying to tell them that you can do that WHILE you surf! hee hee!

Gotta go, catch you sometime soon I hope.

Hey!

Cool, I think I know where that is! I still go to Wales a lot coz obviously half our family's still there...but I don't get to go into Cardiff that much now - my Grandparents live in Langstone (near-ish Newport I think?) and some other relations live near them...I have friends in Blackwood as well but Blackwood scares me!! There are quite few weirdos that hang out there...!!! I luuurve Cardiff tho - it's a gorgeous city, I'd like to go to Uni there (my friend's there at the mo) but I think my parents are set on the whole Oxford or Cambridge thing...HEEEELP! They're even more weird there!

Yeah, I think my exams have gone OK so far - all my worst ones (ie: Maths, Biology and second harder IT paper) are still to come...not looking forward to that! I did 7 and a half hours revision today...and I mean solidly! I'm scaring myself!! You're right, it does suck SO majorly...

I haven't been surfing for months and months and months and I really do have withdrawl symptoms!! I think that's why I come on here so much now - coz you gotta admit, the real thing wins hands down! But as I can't do that...! The nearest bit of sea to me is aaaaaages away. Got a trip to Cornwall planned with my one and only friend who's into surfing this summer - but everyone on here's right, summer's not the best time to go! Oh well...I'll stop moaning, at least I'm going. I'm heading dowm to France with her aswell so might be a little better there - I love Cornwall so much though! It's like my fave place in the whole world (except Cardiff of course..!)

ANYway, sorry about all that random rambling - it's just nice to talk to a girl my age who loves the same stuff as me :)

Better go - need to get my fix of second best internet related surfing stuff (ie: looking at boards and wetsuits coz I might be getting my own for my 18th!!!! WOOHOO! Dunno how I've been coping without my own for all this time - I've just been nicking my mate's!!) before I get chucked off the computer...!

Catch ya later, take care. x x Hannah

Bizarrely I have exams on Monday - I thought I was long past exams at my age but I have 6 hours of exams on Monday and I'm finding it really hard to revise.

Try revising when you have a full time job, have an IT project to do in the evenings, have to finish programming a system you designed for someone and have a kid!! For me distractions are far too numerous!!

Stick at it though everyone. It's worth working hard to get your qualifications. This will be my second degree, and work have just told me they want me to do another qualification for my job!!

Man am I going to be busy!!

Cheers all and good luck!!

Omg, no joke! You really will be busy!! Our exams sound kinda pathetic compared to that..! 6 hour exam?!!! Thta's almost as marathon as my revision sesh! What are you being examined on?! Anyway, good luck to you, too!

Kylie, you never know, I might just take you up on that! And if you ever wanna come check out the non existant surf in Oxford, feel free! (Doesn't sound too exciting really does it?!) Good luck with all your exams too - we'll be FINE. I'm sure surfing must increase brain capacity in some way or another...well, that's what I'll keep hoping until they're over! Not so much revision today...only 3 hours! Rubbish compared to yesterday, but I had to go to the orthodontist...braces coming off in 20 days! WOOOOHOOOO! They'll be off in time for Summer and then I can surf in style :) I hope...unless I wipe ot really majorly in which case it won't matter how much smiling I do, I'll still look like a prat! Oh well...

Better skidaddle (I love that word! Ok, really not doing anything for the image here..!!) Catch y'all later.

x x Hannah

I started to take a course in Systems Analysis and Program Design with Java Programming.

Then, the company that paid for it and who it was for went down the pan. No sense in giving up though so I carried it on.

I have a 3 hour Systems Analysis paper in the morning, then a 3 hour Systems Design paper in the afternoon!

I am NOT looking forward to it!!

Anyway I hope you all do well in your exams. If you need any help with French or German revision, I might be able to help.

Cheers

Sounds kinda similar to the stuff I'm doing for GCSE I.T.!! Though I'm sure what you're doing is way more complicated - I have to do stuff about system analysis, design, implementation, testing, evaluation etc etc...I'm rubbish at it, don't understand it and should really never have taken it! And my exam's next week - aaaaah! If I can think of anything I really don't understand by the time I come on here next, you sound like the guy to ask...!!! Would you mind?!! I do French and Geman too so I might just take you up on them aswell..! Nah, just kidding - languages are my best subjects! I wanted to take Italian this year but it didn't fit in the timetable...I already had 5 AS subjects lined up - not good! i have my Biology exam on Monday...little worried about that one! Ah well...

I had problems with my French GCSE timetable - I ended up studying it at home and taking it a year early!

Anyway - I'm pretty sure I've done enough to pass my Systems Exams so I should be all done now! Woo hoo!

Cheers

Hey hey Girls/Guys, I know what you all mean about the barrier between us guys and the gals, but i find the best way to talk to everyone else is to just chill out and have a laugh, share the enjoyment! We're all in the sea shivering our guts off for one reason, so why not share the joy?!?!

Oh Yeah, Anyone in the North Devon/Croyde/Puts area at the end of August????

Oh by the way, I bodyboard as well as surf, it is definately not a sin!! I think that if you do both, you are having the best out of both worlds!!!

Yeah completely! I do a bit of both aswell - I started out body boarding in California 4 or 5 years ago and that's what got me to try surfing last year, which I am now so into it's unbelievable! (Not at ALL good yet, though but I'm working on it!) x x Hannah

why cant everything be simple?

Postby bluerdge2@aol.com » Tue Jul 06, 2004 7:39 am

I just got to this coast (Cali), started this trip from Mavericks to K58 Mexico. So far I ve talked to several people, and in Cali. the girls have been the cool, not like the east coast. Comman interest are our bond, so whats up with the stereotype. When youre watching sets and see that surfer that pounds a barrell, the first instinct is " Check out that barrell and did you see that dude jammin." Of course everyone is dude.
I think if people keep things simple, then youll never go wrong. So you guys that are intimidated by surfer chicks, theres no need to be worried unless you have other intensions besides casual conversation. Which if youre fortinate enough to hook up, then cool. Just keep it simple and youll never go wrong. And never turn down partying.

I know exactly what you mean. I took up surfing with my cousin and she never really got into it, whereas I was instantly hooked. -The days that she was too hungover etc. to go out I ended up heading out by myself.

-None of my friends were really interested (or else they came out once or twice and never again!) Don't know that many girls that surf (2 or 3) as there's very few over here who do it, so would just chat to the lads instead and yeah I do think that some of them think I'm even OUT there just to meet lads.
