Postby Nicola » Sun Sep 18, 2005 7:27 pm

Hey everyone, Was wondering if you's can help me. A board I'm looking at is carbon, can anyone tell me about this type of board or is it pretty much the same as fibre glass. Thanks in advance for your help!

Um, this is like saying I'm looking at a blue car....can anybody tell me about blue cars :-)

Dimensions? What does it look like? Shape?

It's not a Dick Brewer 6'6" x 18.5" gun is it?

Do you really get off from making people looks like a fool for asking question or do you have to try hard to make yourself look smarter ?

I think she's asking a reasonable question. If you read the question carefully she specify her question about the material of the board, not the dimensions, the looks nor the brand.

I don't know the answer to her question but it'll help if someone who can actually understand the questions answer it.

This is the back of the board with more graphics Image Here is where I got the dimensions Image The shaper advertised it as 6'10" funboard but it probably was a typo

Nope; I'm not trying to look anything at all. But when someone asks any question about carbon boards it would indicate to most surfers that the person is perhaps looking at a board not quite suitable for them. i.e. a similar question posed about a Dick Brewer Mini-Gun 6'6" x 18.5" x2.5" recently.
And, regarding the comment above, carbon boards can take many forms, Alum honeycomb stringer, drain hole or not? different lay-ups, etc etc. Asking about a "carbon" board is way too vague.
Anyway, moving on....

Okay she's a beginner and so am I for not knowing the difference between carbon board and fiber glass board. But your first comment...

Brent wrote:Um, this is like saying I'm looking at a blue car....can anybody tell me about blue cars .

...makes the question sounds like a dumb blond joke. I'm pretty sure you weren't born in this world with this knowledge instantly. Somewhere along the way in the past when you were learning how to surf (maybe long long time ago)just like her or myself you were told by someone else (who knows better) about it.

I mean is it really so hard for you to just share your knowledge without putting the person who is asking the question down ? If you think the question is too ridiculous for your standard then don't answer it. Leave her be but don't put her down for not knowing.

People like you makes most people afraid to ask questions. When people don't ask questions that's when accident happens in water.

I am a beginner and I am not ashamed of it nor will I stop asking questions to others. You may be a wise surfer now but you were like her or myself once upon a time, a beginner.

Leave it out, you look like you are just looking for a fight. Brent is a more experienced surfer yes, but he is not patronising in the least to us beginners, how do i know? Because he's teaching me to surf. The whole blue car thing is an example to explain to her that you have to be more specific, there is no malice in that, you are reading far more into his posts. Hows about you just lose the chip on your shoulder and thank him for his reply. He was just trying to help.

I am far away from looking for fight.

Just like Nicola (I presume), I'd be more than happy to get an answer of what the difference between carbon and fiber glass board.

You know the dude and so you may understand his ways. I don't know him and as stranger I am merely pointing out that his comment came across as being a little harsh.

Any one who reads his first comment would think it's a dumb a blonde joke. I for one did and I pretty sure I can relate to how Nicola must feel.

Let me put it in your perspective. If you didn't know the dude and the dude say things like that to you then you would feel like a fool for asking.

I've met many experience surfer and your friend is definitely not the friendliest kind when answering question to a person he doesn't know. There is such thing as being a little more courteous to someone you don't know.

Please, forgive me for speaking my mind.
