I've been riding an 8'0 softie last weekend and it was actually pretty fun! It was less wide and heavy than the (usual?) surf school boards, so I might pick one up for the small wave days as an extra board.

What's your opinion about the following boards:
Hypto Krypto 6'8
Torq mod fish 6'10 (got an offer for a 2nd hand)

still too short?

I'm kinda curious to know what the difference is, in terms of how easy it is to catch waves, between a longer and a shorter board with the same volume. Can you guys talk about that a little bit more? :blah: :blah:

Thanks again

Isn’t every day a small wave day where you are?! I thought that was the point.......

Dead ears; the two boards you mentioned are completely unsuitable for you in terms of the waves you have and your skills.....remember this thread when you are bobbing around the lineup not getting any waves after getting a too short board. You won’t be alone; lineups here are full of bobbers.

Raiz wants to follow fashion
A nice board spent his cash on.
He strides the sand,
His board in hand
To face the North Sea swells,
Is he on on track
as he paddles out back?

He finds out that fashion,
Means less waves more splashen.
Forum advice says volume when longer
Makes paddling stronger.
You have less of a chance
To advance with addvance!.

You're not in Australia
So don't argue for failure,
Nor California
But we did try to,warn ya!

This made me laugh quite a lot!  We have a tradition here called "Sinterklaas" which is... well... some sort of santaclaus (we have him as well!, giving presents to kids, usually accompanied by rhymes. His day was yesterday, so it was really fitting I read this today.

Right guys ok ok ok you've convinced me not to buy a fancy expensive board. I will however still be looking to replace my BIC but I'll look into something longer than I mentioned but with less weight than the BIC.

Just returned from a business trip to my team near Amsterdam. Sh... traffic today between Amsterdam and Utrecht. We have a similar tradition with Nikolaus yesterday. I got into some serious trouble a few years ago when I made a reference to the the Zwarte Piet without knowing some of the conflicts - you really need to know how to deal with local tradititions. Anyway the family focus and humor in Netherlands is so great.

Re board - going longer is smart - check Hartbeach, Aloha and some local shapers. Have a look at Moderns Love Child and LightBoardCorps WTF ("World Traveler Fun Shape", not "What the Fu,.." :wink) besides Fatums Buffer (Made in Portugal vs China) . I understand the desire to move away from BIC. Well functioning boards, but heavy and not exactly an object of desire.:

Jaffa, I am counting the days until Easter in Andalucia and still hoping for a chance to meet. If not before in the mountains...

I saw this board a while back in a shop and thought it had potential. I don't know how it would perform in Holland, but I think it's probably comparable in quality to Firewire boards and a little bit cheaper.

I’m a great fan of concaves and channel bottom, especially Bonzers. One comment allmuseless pretty much in gutless surf.
For me they seem to be ratchety picking up in the little powerpockets then faltering when what little power there is drops.
Better riders can make them sing even then.

I know this post is from a while ago but as I've just bought a Firewire Addvance Timbertek 7'6 I thought I'd just give my feedback. I'm a beginner still, 43 years old, 83kgs, have been going on surf trips for a year mostly to North Devon/Cornwall but also to Hendaye in the South of France. I am basically working on being able to consistently catch green waves and trying to surf down the line rather than straight towards the beach. My paddle fitness is xxxxx although my paddle strength for short bursts is ok. I've just got back from 3 days at Fistral Beach with forecasts between 2-3ft and 3-5ft. First impressions are that it is very easy to catch waves on the addvance. I was riding a bic 8'4 before with loads of volume (72l). I tried a 7'6 cortez with quite a lot less volume and had a much harder time catching waves. I therefore decided to go for an addvance as it's light but high volume. I would just say that this is a board that is suitable for beginners if you are able to consistently able to pop up on a large bic or foamie-style board. Don't worry about the advance reference in the name...this isn't a board for advanced surfers. I am very happy with it and after this first trip I can already feel it's going to be a great board to progress on.

I've got an Addvance 6'6 in LFT, I'm intermediate, 55yo, 6', 74kg, and surf in Bali. I love this board, but I don't love the LFT built because it's just too weak, already had so many repairs..
For it's length is a great paddler and wave catcher, and it offers an amazing amount of performance for such a wide and thick 'shortboard'.
With the right (small) fins it can handle well overhead, but it isn't too keen on hollow waves (it's no fun to catch a rail at high speed, ok maybe it wasn't the best moment to do a cutback..). And duck diving big white water, or even holding on to such a thick board when bigger waves is a problem.
Death is coming to Brooklyn. And it's got buck teeth and a cotton tail!

Have any of you looked into Catch Surf boards? I wonder if the Log 6.0 with 55 liters wouldn’t work well.. Supposed to be very easy to surf, like a fun board but shorter
