Twin fins on a board not (necessarily) designed for twins

Something WKK posted in another thread about putting twin fins on a longboard and how fast and fun it was.....one day after he posted that a set of lightly used futures twin fins came up for sale on the local buy and sell page. So since it was something I'd wanted to try, was top of mind and the price was good I got them and put them on my big 8'2" fungun. I have had a retro twin fin fish before but that the extent of my twin fin experience and I never took that fish out in anything that was over shoulder high.

Board was fast! Faster than as a thruster and faster than as a single fin. Faster than the quad I rode the day before......between the size of the board, the volume and the waves (head to 1.5OH), the board just flew. Took a little to get used to.....the fin boxes for the side bites that I put these fins into are a little forward in regards to the overall design of the board if used as a twin fin....I don't know what the reason was exactly, but felt like the board was really loose when I would pop up so I had to take a couple few waves to gingerly work that out; had to make a point of setting the fins in the wave before popping up otherwise it was really skatey.....after getting on though the board was great and I rode it better than I ever have, and again, just flew down the line. Next stop is to try on a longboard. I didn't have a stabiliser in.....maybe try with a 3" center fin but need to get one first.

Keep an eye out for Futures Al Merrick "AMT" fins. They were originally designed for Rob Machado's Robber model. Those are cool too.

Spotted this “twin” on a Taiwan surf photo collection “Hope Cheng”. It’s catching on, around the world I guess.

Looks like fiberglass MR.TX fins.

Softer day Saturday coming........going to set up the longboard with the twins and try that then.
