Is it a terrible idea to buy a used rental board?

Postby BaNZ » Thu Sep 14, 2017 6:21 pm

They only rent those boards out in summer and I have a feeling that they only bought them this year. It looks cleaner/newer than my own board. Fins and paint all looks intact just like new boards, no rust on screws. They do leave it in the blazing sun upside down all day so that might be very bad for the board. Also it might be hard to tell if the board has been repaired. I know I'll be using it for years and I should just get a new one, but I know it will get dings and dent in the subway. Also I can't rinse it with fresh water after every session so I think getting a used board would be a wise decision.

I've bought a rental board before. I've sold it for a few reasons. What kind is it? Poly? Epoxy? Depending on the size, they might not have been used much.

If the board looks better than your board after a year then I would ask you why would you ever buy a new board?
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Short answer, NO. It's no different from buying any used board. Main question should be how much they're selling it for and if it's worth that price. I assume it's a decent/known brand if you're considering it, if it's a no namer, personally I would steer clear.

Also, why would it be hard for you to see any repairs done? Is it repainted? If so, STAY AWAY!
