Windsurf Anyone?

somebody offered his old windsurfer, im gonna give it a shot, maybe give me some similar feeling to surfing. anybody else windsurf or sailboard?

Yep I used to - a lot.
Great if no waves, great if there are waves but still better to surf.
Down side is you get board of flat water sailing, and its so expensive to keep up with the latest gear - £1000/board, £400+/sail, carbon masts, Several different size booms for all your different size sails for all the different wind strengths.
Having to kart all the gear to the beach each time cos you never know what you'll need til you get there. Need a big board for light winds/course racing, a medium board for slalom/freestyle, and a custom shorter board for wavesailing.
When I used to compete I needed a rigged up sail/mast/boom/mastfoot for the current wind strength and then 2 more fully rigged setups on the beach - 1 sail size bigger and 1 smaller just in case!
Fk it, stick to surfing!

I get to the beach,
park up,
go and look at the waves,
cook breakfast in the van,
eat breakfast,
disentangle today's board out of the hi-top,
wax the board,
struggle into a cold wet wetsuit,
realise Ive left the key in the van,
struggle out of wetsuit,
put key in key pocket,
struggle back into wetsuit,
pick up board and plod half a mile to the water,
have a rest at the waters edge,
FINALLY paddle out into the water and go surfing...

Which seems like a lot of faffing about...


...until you compare it to wind-surfing which seems to take ten times as long!!

i would love to surf everyday of the year with shite waves and freezing waters. but nobody in my family does, and i dont have a car. weve got a river house (no river mouth breaks, protected bay messes that up) and a guy has a windsurfer that he'll let me use for nothing. yea, it does sound like a hassel though.

Hey don't get me wrong, reckon if this guy has a windsurf setup just lying around and there's no waves to surf then I think you should deffo get stuck in but surfing is better for the 'fun V hassle' equation.
But bottom line is water time always better than land time .
