Gap Year stuff....

hey guys
Im starting to think about planning my gap year and i know that i wanna do some serious surfing, i have the world storm rider guide book which is really helpful, but i wanted to get some first hand advice on where was good to go? If anyone has done something similar i would be greatful of the advice and stories, like if there are any places to avoid?

Im kinda in two minds whether to go and stay in one continent to work and surf so it doesnt cost as much or to travel and see as many surf spots as possible....any advice????
