First Fish board?

Hello! I'm looking for advice on what type of board to get for east coast (VA Beach and Mid-atlantic) surfing. I've rented several times, both longboards and shortboards. I like the versatility of the shortboards and think a Fish would be good for this area.

What would be a good first timer Fish board to buy, and what size is best for a 5'9" 150 lbs male? I'm thinking something like the Strive Skipjack Fish looks pretty neat: https://www.leftlanesports.com/product. ... DQod3L0F1w

That is all very well, but the relevant question , if you have rented short and long boards, is how well do you ride?
You like the versatility? That is just a sales pitch unless your actual surfing is versatile!

STATEMENT: unless you can ride rail to rail and have good shortboard skills, a fish board is as useful to you as a bicycle is to fish

1) A first time to own a Fish Board or First time to own your own board ? First time purchasers ( taking the next step after lessons and renting boards ) should still be in the 2+ feet over your head. 2nd board gets you in to the Funboard / Hybrid / big fish sizes of 1-2 over your head.
2) Strive Skipjack Fish is NOT a Fish. Their own write up says "Fish Inspired". Just because a board has a "Swallow Tail", does not make it a fish. That said, I like the shape, it's similar to a 6'6" go-to-board I use to ride. ( but until we get more info from you, I not sure it is good for you )
