Im having a bit of trouble cleaning my board. Whats the best way to remove the wax from the deck.

What cleaner would be the best?? Because some cleaners work better for different things.

I think last time I used some Window/Glass cleaner.

Try not to use something too abrasive as it may damage the glass.

I've heard of people using hair dryers to melt the wax off.

If you can put it somewhere warm, that may help. I know someone who put theirs under an old black tarpauline in the sun, the wax was practically dripping off after about an hour!!

Don't put it in direct sunlight though!

I leave my board in the sun when its dry and sunny, and then just scrape the wax off with an old credit card. I never use a hair dryer. I used it and wasnt very keen on this method because it felt like it was damaging the vinyl on the board and wasnt melting off as good.

most surf shops sell wax removers, havent tried it but i guess they work

i use a credit card to get it down to the very least. then i either scrub with hot water or use some remover. suposively if youve got to get it bare clean(puttin on traction pads) you can use alchohol, never tried it tho

Leave it out in the sun for 20 minutes. I did accidentally the other day while at the beach and the wax slid around when I touched it making it very easy to remove if I had to. I had to put my board in the water to chill the wax to make it stick again. I've removed wax in the past by using a credit card as a scaper, it worked really well.

Cleaning your stick 101

1. Leave board in sun for 5 minutes to soften the wax
2. Scrape wax off board with bevelled edge of wax comb.
3. Mrs. Palmers Wax Combs are the best because they have a curvy edge.
4. Use a rag or a towel to get the really stubborn crap off
5. Use a Citrus kinda cleaner (Spray 'n' Wipe.. etc.) to shine your board
6. Use Mr. Sheen for a SICK look
7. Use ACETONE for a SLICK look
8. Use Car Polish to buff it up to Perfection

scrape excess wax off, then just biff up with a pickle.
no need for wax remover or acetone.
no chemicals either.

scrap off as much wax as u can, then use acetone BUT use gloves when using acetone!!

No way man, acetone feels so sick when you get a drop on your hand!

Sorry but buying "wax cleaner" is like paying for drinking water out of a fountain.

1) Board in sun for a very short period of time (especially if it is above 80 degrees). I can't say 5 minutes or 10. It will depend on the temp and the direct or indirect angle the sun has on your board's deck…but when the wax starts to look "shinny" I would say it's ready for step 2.

2) Scrape as much wax off as you can with an old credit card or something like it.

3) Then take FREE sand from the beach and cover your board with it wherever there was wax before (the sand will stick to the wax residue). Let it sit for another short time period until the sand starts to look "darker & wet."

4) With your hand, brush off the remaining wax residue/sand until you have a wax-free board deck.

Some spots make take some extra elbow grease and it may get hot forcing you to switch hands, but when you're finished, rinse your board off and it will be as clean as the day you bought it...I promise.

And you’ll never freaking buy board cleaner again. Sorry but most surfers are broke a@$ b@#$%, so it bugs me when the industry makes money where it doesn’t need to. $300 wetsuits and $600 boards are enough don’t you think?

BTW, I've been using this method for 20 years...I'm what my friends’ call a bit of a "neat wax job" fanatic. I change my wax on my everyday board at least monthly.
